The eMac and iMac share the same system bus speed --- 100MHz.

Disregard the screens on both the eMac and iMac-- is one machine faster, able to handle a bit more in terms of larger files and more applications open? And if you want to add memory or other upgrades down the road, which one would be better? Is the eMac the next cube in that it will be phased out asap?

nono - there is no way you can get the colours to match up - what photoshop does is emulation at best. I've done a fair bit of print work and even though I always work in cmyk tiffs, and this is working on a crt, they would never print out anything like what I saw on screen. (and yes, i'd been through the whole coloursync thing....)
It is just physically impossible for an RGB image on a screen to match a CMYK+spot printout, since they have very different gamuts and apparant brightness

To be honest, the CRT will give you better color accuracy than any TFT display....for right now. There getting better everyday.

nu world, if you're not getting a close onscreen representation of the printed match proofs, then your system is set up incorrectly. As mentioned above, that's what these technologies and systems were designed for---and they're getting better with every passing year.

I am well aware of the differences in RGB and CMYK color models---I've been in the print and prepress business for over 27 years. I'm not saying that you can get a spot-on, identical match, but it should be damn close.

The only thing that should stop you from getting the eMac is if you don't have the extra 300 bucks! Otherwise it's a brain-dead decision.

Well for Desktop Publishing,....I would think again
you might not rush just as yet to get and eMac
I would wait for some disturbing growing up problems to be ironed out first
you might be interested by "monitor" problems a few (how few) of us have experienced.

of if you are not registered,
it is in the "eMac" discussion in the "Support" section of the Apple.com site

geez, imho, DOA computers should be replaced by Apple with new ones, immediately. It's absurd that folks are having to have their brand new purchases go to the repair shop for a month.

Can't Apple just fix and sell the DOA's as refurbs and thus not lose their $ ?
