Apple increases .Mac storage to 1GB, adds Groups

I didn't get the storage boost automatically: the system showed a total allowance of 1024MB, but still just 125MB for both Mail and iDisk. I changed it to 125MB for Mail and 899MB for iDisk but it was still just showing 125MB for the iDisk when I checked. Only by going to 512MB on both did I get to see increased storage capacities. I was wondering as I tried to play with Backup 3.0 this morning and it told me my iDisk was full, which had seemed odd. I don't know if this is just temporary, or if everyone is going to have to adjust the settings to get .Mac to recognise the new storage allowance.
This is very nice, anyway, though a post wouldn't be complete without a whine and here's mine: the webmail interface still sucks. It wasn't so bad when Hotmail was the point of comparison, but in a Gmail world, .Mac webmail is too slow, forces us to use fixed font plain text, replies and forwards HTML mail horribly, and so on. I've already renewed but I would value changes here more than in any other part of the service.

Alex,
You need to login to .mac online to change the storage division between email & idisk; using their updated idisk size. The OSX preference pane is based on the "old" storage capacity you chose online. Just login and you'll be set /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Has anybody figured out why, when replying to a message using the .Mac webmail, the original email is sometimes visible in the reply and sometimes not visible, but instead is an attachment? It is very inconvenient to not have the original there to reference while you write.
And will we ever be able to send a .Mac webmail message to a group list?

btw: Still no .mac widgets?
I'm still waiting & hoping for:
- subdomains ~ http://username.mac.com
- username 404 page that can be customized or defaulted to the username index page
(rather than apple's generic page can't be found / user inactive)
--> If you'd like these features, please consider giving apple .mac feedback on them @ the .mac feedback page
Thanks,

If the email you are replying to is HTML formatted, it gets attached as there still isn't a universal way to WYSIWYG edit HTML within a web browser. Rather than strip out the formatting and hoping that the text comes out ok, they attach it. Honestly, that's why I resent HTML email to this day and it rarely adds anything to the email. In fact, it never adds anything for personal emails (at least for me).

I watched the Quicktime movie about "Groups" on the .Mac page. About 3/4 of the way through the movie, it showed an iDisk window in the finder. But, there was a set of three icons (calculator, Safari and Preview) flush right in the toolbar of the window. Is this an extension that someone added to their OSX Finder? I couldn't find a way to add them by customizing my toolbar. Here's a screenshot of what I saw: http://www.gomarky.com/iDiskwindow.jpg
Any ideas anybody?

that's an easy one and i think this feature has been with OS X from the beginning because i have been putting apps in the finder window bars for a long long time.
do this: click and drag an app to the finder bar and hold it there for one or two seconds. you will notice the other icons move out of the way and you can drop the new icon there. it's just like adding icons to the dock but with the finder window you have to hold the icon there for a couple seconds before you can drop it there.
