Acquisition files made silent; is this a virus?!!

During the night sometime, while using Cabos, something happened to almost all the files (mp3, etc.) that I've downloaded from Acquisition. None of them play, or rather, they play but no sound comes out. I opened one with Audacity and the sound wave was flat. Further exploration showed that all the affected files had a file creation date, modification date, and last opened date of sometime between 3:15 and 3:30 AM this morning. This sounds malicious, and I am wondering if this isn't some sort of network attack, the first mac virus maybe? Sounds crazy, I know, but this is weird.
Please respond if you can help!

Thanks, that's helpful.
Anyone got any ideas besides karma about why this happened?

you're welcome.
and be advised..
while many will wonder also as you are about the files, filesharing of music is not promoted around here and the sympathy factor will be low... actually, I was nice about it. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
it IS an interesting fact that the sound disappeared.
question?
was it just the shared music? or was any mp3's that you purchased or imported from a CD yourself affected?
and how much of the music came from a subscrition service such as Rhapsody or one of the others.?
just trying to narrow it down.
was it legal music? fileshared music of dubious origin?
or owned music as in CD import or iTunes download?

Yes, it was as you say, ''fileshared music of dubious origin." I accept the low sympathy factor, and I understand the various moral arguments against the practice.
As far as I can tell, it is exclusive to music gotten through Acquisition, and on a playlist in iTunes with that name. I haven't checked every single song in the library, but from what I can tell, none of what I ripped in or downloaded from Apple seems to be affected.
I should emphasize that this change happened in the night while I but not the computer was sleeping.
I'm running a thorough Virex scan of the whole computer right now, but won't have any results from that for a while, I think.
Thanks for helping.

just a thought..
perchance the music you "aquisitioned" was music from somebody's subscription service such as Rhapsody or one of the others.. that being the case, what are the chances that the subscription has expired?
you were tied to the aquisistion network when this happened?

I wasn't running Acquisition when it happened. That scenario seems unlikely, given that all the songs would have expired at the exact same time.

dunno then and stumped as well.
I have a mac.com address with this username..
I just didn't type it all out so google doesn't grab it and up my spam count.
should you wish to email me one of the mp3's that died, I would like to see what I can do with it.
no promises and may be an exercise in futility.. but perhaps something.
you can stuffit or .img it or send it nekkid should you wish.

It's on its way. I'll be heading in for the night soon, so if I don't get back to you tonight, we'll pick this up tomorrow.
Thanks.

yup.. some
don't put those on a PC.
I only found 2 .exe files in it.
I don't have a PC.. and wouldn't put that file in it anyway.
haven't figured out why you lost all of your "aquisitioned" songs yet tho.
still playing when I have time.. but i got a few toys from santa.. so /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif time is somewhat spread thin.

You found two .exe files in that one mp3?
Isn't that kind of amazing?
