flashing green and orange - iPod shiffle

My new (refurb) iPod shuffle worked great for about amonth. Then one day I plugged it in to sync and got a flashing ornage light, would not mount to iTunes. Now the green and ornage lights flash when turned on, but nothing happens. It will not mount to my G5 and will not play. This has been going on for over a week and the battery still has not died.
What do I do?

Return it if you can. It's dead.
