Ok, so i am sorry if this has already been discussed but i haven't found it around. So i get this annoying problem: when i open any program like iMovie or iDVD which have a "media" browser and i select iPhoto i get different errors like "Comic Life cannot find your iPhoto Library. Perhaps you are not using iPhoto or your iPhoto Preferences are out of date?" or "Launch iPhoto 2 or later to populate this list". This is stupid. I have 17.000+ photos in iPhoto library. I have rebuilt the entire library with all the available options provided by Apple; still no luck. From time to time iPhoto tells me to update the thumbnails to improve performance. Strange things are happening here. Please help. Thanks.

So, 17000 photos...
The very first thing I might do is to actually save the entire iPhoto library on a different drive (FW external devices are quite useful). Manually open random photos to ensure that all looks well. Make sure that my iPhoto version is current and all system permissions are repaired (always a good, albeit, a nebulous advice! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif). Assuming you have already done all this, I'll then download an application called iPhoto Buddy, using it I will create a new library at a different location than normal, which would be completeley empty. Now I will use add to the library command and nevigate my way through to the original library folder. Hopefully all will be found... new thumbnails that are compatible with the new version of iPhoto will be made and you should have no problems. Once you have confirmed that everything is fine, you can delete the original library, and move the new library back to the original default place and use the iPhotoBuddy to see it again.
It seems that you have had multiple updates of iPhoto over the time and some components of the library are mucked up. The above remedy is assuming that normal rebuilding of thumbnails using the current iPhoto remains completely unsuccessful, you can still reconstruct your new library without loosing any photos.
I would also recommend that you split the entire library into specific themes of your choice by using a utility such as iPhotoBuddy, such that each component library is smaller and more, readily manageable and iPhoto will not seem too slow.
