Starting with an mpeg2 file of a DV from a DV Camcorder of less than 3 giga bytes I found I could not import the file into iMovie 3.
Using MPEG Streamclip I was able to cut the file into 4 parts, which I was then able to export to Quicktime Pro and then import into iMovie3.
After editing, I now have a Media file of 8.69 giga bytes!
I just do not have the knowledge to know about compression and the extensions used with digital video. Is it now possible to save this movie into a file size that will fit on a DV-R disk?
I have a Powerbook G4, Panther 3.9, 1G of memory, 50G hard drive, 150G external drive, Quicktime Pro 7.0.1 and iMovie3.
Any help would be much appreciated.

when you import into imovie it "converts" the footage into DV format, which often raises the level of space something takes up
when you finish editing it you can go to "export to quicktime" and make the file any size you want of most formats, and that will convert it to a very managable size

If you have iMovie, you also have iDVD. Add chapters (if you want) and export it from iMovie to iDVD and you'll have it on a std DVD to be played on a DVD player.
