A few built-in OS X tools -- Automator, the Energy Saver preference pane, and iTunes -- can turn your Mac into an alarm clock that serenades you with music each morning. [more]

Well what I would do is put the workflow in iCal, since I leave my computer on 24/7, Same effect however it will still work if you have multiple users or require a password for login. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's a waste of time. Get John Narun's iTunes Alarm instead. It rocks! It can wake your pooter from sleep, fade in(you choose how long) and then play your favourite song(s). It can also snooze and you can also fade out at a certain time and put the pooter to sleep, if u like.
It's free! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The sadly discontinued AUDION had an alarm clock function build in. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I use iRooster, which is extrememly simple to use, and they give you a free trial period. After it ends, you have to pay $15, I think it is...

How exciting, a $2000-3000 superduper oh, so great machine serving the function of a $15 radio clock... some other suggested functions include tea/coffee warmer, not quite a toaster but may be an egg potcher but I'll be truly impressed when it can work better than Ginsu knives /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Awesome!
Now, will this concept, plus iCal, work with Shared iTunes libraries and playlists? I'm throwing a party, but my 'home audio' Mac has no actual library, and is instead networked to my other, tunes- laden Macs. I'd like to set certain playlists to begin playing at specific times, some from my wife's Mac and some from mine.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I almost got the whole iCal/iTunes party playlist timer to work using Automator. The only snag was the fact the Automator can't see iTunes' shared libraries and playlists, only local libraries and playlists. It's quite simple to do with local playlists; still very cool. I only wish I could open my Automator .workflow file in the Applescript Editor.

I'm down with the iCal method. Tell Energy Saver to wake up the machine and then set an iCal alarm like 2 minutes later to launch your applescript that will run your play list. Works great.

This does not seem to work if you have set-up password protection to login whenever a PowerBook is set to sleep.
Any ideas?
