Has anbody just taken the screen out of the case and perhaps given it a a nice jolt of 24 volts or so? You know, so it is then covered under warrenty.
Just a thought.

Intentionally damaging your macbook is no more coverable under warranty than the broken screen is. My guess is that if you tried to do so the company could even take legal action against you or, more likely, just void your warranty all together. I think any respectable tech would question a voltage spike that managed to go all the way through the logic board without causing any damage until it got to the display. The tech could also, very easily, check for cracks in the display using a light.
Macworld is a respectable publication in the mac community. The majority of the posters on this forum interact using certain ethical standards. I think suggesting one make fraudulent warranty claims would fall well below the norm here. Furthermore, these fraudulent claims would only increase the cost of macs for all of us.

I too have encountered the dreaded cracked screen on a macbook. Does it seem to anyone else that this seems to happen more often with the black macbooks? Has anyone had any luck with getting it replaced by apple? I have had the macbook for about a month ad ahve taken good care of it. I am unsure how the crack originiated, i just opened it up toda and there was a weird line on the screen, and it barley functions. If anyone has had any luck with getting apple to cover it under warranty (which from the posts does not seems to have happened) please let me know.

Hello New Post same issue. MACBOOK 13" cracked screen with no visible signs of missuse.
The Problem: Apple is quoting a price of 700-800 (taxes) for replacement.
New MACBOOK is 1000.
This is a sure sign that Apple is gouging its customers (a swindle). When asked to justify cost, Apple Support representative stated that Apple can charge what ever it wants to charge. This needs to be reported to the BBB whenever it happens. Posting here won't help much.
For all those drinking the Koolade: markets decide what price Apple will charge (e.g. iPhone). Don't be an idiot and say its the cost of owning a mac.

Least I forget, as soon as it happens cancel your Apple Care. To show them how much, you care.

They have the part here for $250 if you want to do it yourself (and are still interested) http://www.powerbook...EW-p-16961.html. I would've blamed it on shipping in the beginning, since it was so soon after you got the laptop (I know that's morally wrong, but I'm just being honest and I respect you for doing it truthfully). Anyhow, I think a cracked screen is a pretty big visible sign of misuse. If you haven't used your mac since then, that's a bummer, because they have had some huge processor improvements since the original.
I've had my macbook for almost a year now. I've had no problems except for a water spill /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif which was fixed with a $150 top casing replacement. Apple wanted $800 and I just replaced the casing. Luckily the logic board wasn't hit /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. As for the screen, I haven't seen any weakness. I just keep my laptop in a normal backpack (no expensive fancy stuff) and it's been banged around quite a bit, and it's fine (Have yet to lift it up by the top).

Hi
Second MB without issue. Carry this one the same way as I previously noted...

Hi
I'd try to talk to the manager, ... Explain exactly what happened that led up to the incident.
I've had my MacBook for nearly a year and I bring it back and forth from work and other places daily with zero problems. I even carry it in a regular / basic / cheap school backpack with just the Sleevz and ScreenSavrz I've had the ScreenSavrz for about four months or so.
I've also had a PowerBook G4 "Titanium" ( 1GHz ) and a Powerbook G3 "Lombard" ( 333MHz ) without any problems, including screen.
I'm not saying that it is but from what I've seen of my own experiences and others ( 'PC' or Apple ), it isn't unreasonable for Apple to claim misuse.

I didn't mention how I also place things like [unopened] soda cans in the same compartment. I'm careful with handling it but not medical gloves / clean room careful.
Let's just say it can take plenty of proper abuse. From what I've seen of "regular use ( abuse )" of customer computers ( Mac or 'PC' ), it's something i'd never imagine.

Gotta chime in here...have had my MacBook for almost 18 months now. I stuff it into a briefcase with a dell and lug to work, leave in the cold here in NH etc...still plugging along.
Not to suggest that cracked screens and Apple not caring are situations we should live with...but there are MBs not breaking out here...

I have a MacBook 2 and the screen cracked from the upper right corner (spiderweb) all the way to the left. How did this happen!? It was fine last night yet this morning its hosed-
I've read so many complaints concerning the screen and most have had no luck getting it repaired without a paying out the nose.
I'm a Mac fan, I love my IPhone and loved my MacBook but I have to be realistic here- My Dell laptop NEVER broke. I had it for YEARS and only replaced it because it became out dated!
I hope Mac helps me out with this screen or I may return to the ol' PC.... sigh.

it is not only the macbook that cracks, also the macbook pro's. As I had a macbook pro i discovered the same problem as everybody on this forum. Surprised i was that it was not only the macbook pro users but also the macbook users that have this problem. And apple just calling us liers saying we did it ourselves, or at least, not saying it is there fault.

I have made a website
www.macbook-pro-cracked.com

you can register your complaint there till i have enough cases so i can take them to court, please file your complaint there! I need a lot more complaints to start a court case. Please note, in the small court case in the usa you can win this case, if you email me i sent you a contact that can help you out (he won the small court case).

All good luck!
