I'm getting ready to go off to college this fall, and I was thinking about getting a new MacBook. What I'm planning to do is buy it, and then put in 1G of extra RAM myself. It could save me a ton of money, and I was just wondering if I could get any recommendations on great places to buy the extra RAM. Any good personal experiences would be great. Thanks!

OWC has always been tops in service and pretty close in pricing.
it's not worth my trouble to look for a nickel difference most of the time and they have real people should you need help or post sales service.
newegg gets good scores from many.
Crucial is tops, but it seems this year, so are thier prices.

I say crucial but macnuke is right, there prices are seemingly increased.
When I purchased my mini, I first checked with crucial to see how much the ram was going to be and I was dumbfounded to see that it was more expensive then apple /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I opted for apple to install the memory in the mini mostly because it isn't a user replaceable component and I really didn't want to take a putty knife to it. It really is a nice looking computer and I'd hate to scratch it or worse /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
OWC would be my second choise. I've heard good things from them.

I have a lot of friends that swear by newegg.com -- it's not a manufacturer of RAM, but it'll help you find a great deal on some.

Apple's recommendation is that you install RAM in pairs. This also means that they only sell their computers with matched-pairs. So if you buy from the Apple site, you will get either the default 2x256, 2x512, or 2x1GB RAM configurations. So you can buy an extra 1GB stick for about $110, giving you 1.5GB unmatched, or you can spend $90 to upgrade to Apple's 2x512 config and have matched pairs. I can't really say how much of a speed boost you really get with matched pairs--that's something I'm still waiting for MacWorld to test and publish.

I bought mine from OWC.
I have bought most of my ram from them...great company...good prices.
I am having NO ISSUES with the 2GB upgrade I put in my new MacBook.

I found 2 x 1GB sticks from Buyaib.com via DealRAM.com for $158 shipped. They work flawlessly!
