I use Network Solutions for all of it, Registrar and host. They have a great package, $9.96 a month with 7G space and many 150 gigs of transfer. Get your WHOIS privatized too for $9 a year. I have found them to be very reliable. I used to use Hostcentric for years but found now that I'm with Network Solutions my email is never off line like it was occasionally with Hostcentric. My FTP download is as fast as you can suck it down, Hostcentric seemed to throttle it down for some reason. Go with the big boys if you want speed and reliability, IMO.

I use servage.net for my hosting. $7.50 USD/month for 110gb storage and 1110gb of bandwidth. Includes a free domain name and free whois privacy too. I have been very happy with their service and their support is awesome. Usually get a response from them on anything within an hour or two regardless of time of day.

I don't dispute anything you say, but Network Solutions is among the most expensive domain name registrars.

I use GoDaddy and am happy with their service and really happy with their prices.

Dotster is another good service for a reasonable price, (though I cannot vouch for its hosting services as such), and you might consider ZoneEdit for many free e-mail services -- including setting up name servers and also alias domain names, mail forwarding, and the like.

At $5.99, 1and1.com is definitely the cheapest registrar and there is no extra charge for private registrations --- Try beat that!
However, you might want to stay away from 1and1 hosting though. Their support totally sucks. I'd try hostgator.com or jaguarpc.com - they are small and you get instant support.
Good luck!

I like Dreamhost. The base plan now offers 200 GB storage and 2 TB transfer. Not bad.

I've tried a handful of web hosting companies over the years and I find them all to be just about the same. Some do things better on this, others do better on that. I've finally settled on Thinkhost, because of their reliability and they have the best customer service hands down.

OK, as a web designer I come across most hosts at one time or another and after a number of years I've come up with a list of who's worth looking at. The first is Media Temple. They're more expensive but for larger sites there's no one with an infrastructure quite like them. They run all the big boys, including Apple.
Now, for the more humble of us there's Dreamhost. It comes with every single feature I've ever needed in a website, and most of the other ones available for a very reasonable price (say if you need SSL or something similar). The accounts are unlimited transfer and unlimited space for about $9 a month. Cheaper if you buy a few years at a time.
Oh, for the record, I've used Servage. I'm actually with them now. The only reason I'm still with them is I'm paid up until mid-April. But at the beginning of April I'm switching to Dreamhost because though Servage have done right by me on a few occasions I've had a number of security issues with them and recently, even after years of faithful service, I've had a run-in with them over a $15 late payment on my hosting. I came close to losing my domain name because of it and that was the final straw.
If you decide to go with dreamhost please put doug [a t] dougstewartdesign [d o t] com as your referral and we both get a delightful bonus. (I've got a referral account with them even though I don't yet host with them.)
Oh, depending on what the site is for, if you're a tax-free non-profit they'll host your site for free as well as give you loads of extras. It's actually rather impressive how they treat non-profits... Their attitude in this respect is what originally won me over to them. I now put all my clients through them and have yet to have a single complaint.
