Powerpoint running mpeg issue

I recently bought a MacBook Pro 15" and have been battling to run Powerpoint properly. Particularly when importing any form of mpeg into a slide, it jus does not want to play and if by any chance i am lucky enough to see any video there will be no audio.
Any Ideas?
