Adobe's releasing a beta of a new Universal version of Photoshop. How fast will it run on Intel-based Macs compared to Photoshop CS2? And what new features has Adobe added to its imaging-editing application? Ben Long tackles these questions and more in his first look at the Photoshop CS3 beta. more

Hmmm... Don't see anything posted at AdobeLabs. I was hoping to download it while I was away at work today!
Any idea when they are going to post it?

It looks great, I want to try it!
But I don't think it's available yet. I clicked on the link provided in the last paragraph to Adobe Labs, but I see no mention of a Photoshop CS3 beta anywhere. Even looked around on Adobe's site in general, logged in with my Adobe ID (in both locations) and see nothing. Perhaps they haven't posted it yet?
Anyone know for sure? I'm dying to download this, and I hope I'm not just blind and not seeing it.

Try here
download CS3

You get a serial number for the beta, here
serial number
In my case, this does not work, it says my CS2 serial is invalid [I got it form THEIR info on CD-box, photoshop-about-box AND adobe account].
Next problem: CS3 asks for OS X 10.4.8, but this is the version that causes so much well known crashes on Intel Macs [that's why I reverted to 10.4.7].
So, no CS3 today for me.

Huh? I'm running 10.4.8 on multiple Intel Macs, and haven't had a single crash of any sort...

Ditto here. 10.4.8 and no crashes. You have bad information my friend.

At approximately 750MBs, its not a small file transfer, so you might want to leave the download running overnight.

only took me 11 minutes to download.

We're running 10.4.8 on 141 Intel based Macs (iMacs, Mac Pro's, and MacBook Pro's) and I haven't heard a single complaint about crashing. I think you might have other issues with your system.

Heh heh, only five minutes here. Blessed are the gifts from lord Broadband. ;-)
The article forgets to mention that even if you don't have Photoshop CS2 or CS2 Suite, you can use the beta for a two day trial. That's at least enough time to put it through its paces and get a feel for the new stuff.

The crashes I refer to are happening in Illustrator [appearances panel, pen tool], and InDesign [complicated pages in High Quality Display settings]. People on Illustrator-forums generally agree that moving back to 10.4.7 solves the problem. 'Crashes' is probably not the right description. More like 'unexpected shutdowns of applications'. I work with 1 GB, 100+ layer cartography files in Illustrator. Quite critical, I guess.

Maybe I missed it the first time. Maybe they fixed the routine since then, but I finally installed PS CS3 successfully.
Go to PS CS3 Download to download the .dmg. Then go to Serial Number and enter your CS2 serial number (24 digits). That gets you to a display of a serial number to use with PS CS3.

That is why I got a used G5 until the CS3 is out the door this spring. Then I will spring for a MacPro, by then probably the RAM will be more affordable too. I got a good deal on the G5. 8GB of RAM dual 2.3, two HD one 250 GB the other 300 GB for $1200, can't beat that.
