I got a good deal on the G5. 8GB of RAM dual 2.3, two HD one 250 GB the other 300 GB for $1200, can't beat that.

Very nice snag. I guess around Spring they'll be more G5s up for offer than you can shake a stick at. I'm planning on making my first laptop a Macbook Pro in the summer; I'll spiff up the G5 tower just a hair more and hang on to that and see what Apple (and my wallet) has available in 2008.

Adobe's releasing a beta of a new Universal version of Photoshop. How fast will it run on Intel-based Macs compared to Photoshop CS2? And what new features has Adobe added to its imaging-editing application? Ben Long tackles these questions and more in his first look at the Photoshop CS3 beta. [more]

Big problem, it doesn't accept the Creative Suite CS2 serial number. This is not right! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I had the same problem, but then clicked the "try for 30 days free" button, even though I didn't think it would work (from what I'd read about the two-day trial serial). Seems to be working so far -- though I'm not sure I'm going to quit it /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Say what? I input my Creative Suite 2 serial # on the page and it gave me a new beta serial # to use with no issues. Are you sure the number is correct? Did you register your product? I'm not sure if it's necessary to do so, but I made certain mine was registered prior to attempting to get this beta. Perhaps it looks up the serial numbers in a database?
Sorry you're having problems, but that CS2 serial should work just fine. In fact, I also used the CS2 Premium serial # from work to get another beta serial to use here and it took that too.

Surprised it wasn't mentioned in the review nor has anyone asked the question. As this IS beta software, the question regards running CS2 and CS3 on the same machine. Obviously the apps are different, but there's a LOT more "stuff" scattered around ones disk that support Pshop CS2. Does installing this beta do ANYTHING to that "stuff" or will it create it's own "stuff?"

Why didn't you read my earlier post below? Do it now and go to the serial number link to get your PS CS3 serial number.

Well, I had CS3 running on my Powermac G5 2.0 Dual OSX.4.8, and PS CS2 wouldn't launch.
But after quitting PS CS3, PS CS2 launched normally.
Guess CS3 made its own stuff which didn't mess with CS2's.
P.S. (haha!) I left PS CS2 running, and PS CS3 opened alongside!

I just installed it - I guess I better start saving for a bigger harddrive to go with CS3! 2 GIGS for Photoshop now? Granted the new Bridge thingee is there too, and who knows what else, but wow, is the full CS3 going to be 10 gigs or more? I hope it all runs fast with all that data to keep track of!

Well, for me at least, I didn't see your post when I replied /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Thanks for the pointer; that did the trick. Wonder why they didn't put that in the beta, as a line of text just below the serial box...ah well.
Thanks;

2 gigs? Hmm, I just added up the 3 major components (PS CS3, Bridge CS3 and Stock Photos CS3) and they add up to under 1 GB. 945 MB to be exact, at least on my Mac.
That's not counting any extra stuff it may install in Application Support, Preferences, etc. but I can't imagine that would take up another gig of space. So, where did that 2 GB number come from?

No problems with Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2 (use them continuously all day long, everyday) in 10.4.8.

I'll have to try it again later. I installed it, ran it, and then it weirded out when I expanded the arrow above and to the left of the layer palette. I had to force quit to regain control of my Mac. From this point I repaired my permsions and went back to CS2, which got stuck on the loading font area, so wouldn't launch.
Anway, all is better now, but only after a long restart. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It said 1.85 gigs right in the installer. "this installation will require 1.85 gigs...". I didn't check to see if it did or not. I just let the installer run through without customization.
Heck, even a gig seems like a huge amount. So, we get bigger drives and faster computers, and the software gets bigger and slower. Excellent!
