Palm-based PDAs have always been the most Mac-friendly models out there. And with the Treo, Palm has done a nice job of melding its PDAs with a cell phone that Mac users can enjoy toting around and has showed the rest of the industry wha's smart about a smart phone. more

Unfortunately, none of the mentioned software (Palm Desktop or Missing Sync) works with Mac OS X Server. As a software developer that has to use Server, I'd love to find some way to sync my Mac with my Palm. Any ideas?

We have Treo's sychronizing email, calendar and tasks using Active Synch on Microsoft Exchange 2003, and I am supprised that the article didn't mention that capability, only the email synch. Granted, it's a Microsoft server product but it's quite slick.

You should do an article on Symbian OS based smart phones. Like the Sony Ericsson M600i or the P990. I know these phone work with iSync, as for how much support is offered by symbian or phone manufactures I do not know. But, I do have heard symbian based phones sync with macs quite well and may be a good solution other than just palm os phones. And would make for an helpful article to those of us who do not have the time or resources to research all solutions out there.
Apple even has a trouble shooting link for iSync and symbian based phones I couldn't find one for palm based phones.

Anyone here actually used a Symbian based phone with their mac. What do you think. I am thinking of getting one but waiting because this might be my only issue as I am no one hundred percent sure on compatibility with mac os x.

Pay for this and pay for that just to make life liveable with these "smart" phones on a Mac. This IS exactly why we need Apple to make us a smart phone. Something that will blow aways all others, not just on Macs but even better then the Windows solutions out there. Thanks Apple, hope you solve this problem soon. MWSF?

DataViz's Documents To Go can read native PowerPoint files, although I don't think you can edit them on the device. Documents To Go .

Glenn and I were asked to focus primarily on how various smartphones interacted with the Mac, which puts server products out of range. So, thanks for filling in this information! (This Palm OS section is just one part of a larger article that appears in the print version of Macworld; I'm guessing the other sections will be posted online in the coming days.)

I use Snapper email but you can also get Chatter for email on the Treo. It supports pushed mail similar to Blackberry. Dot Mac doesn't support push but you can forward it to another email provider. I don't bother syncing all my email, I just have treo and Mac mail app not remove mail from server for a couple of days.

What has bugged me for years is the print function in Palm Desktop. Trying to create a mini address book (3.5 * 6) with addresses printed on BOTH sides is incredibly difficult. Palm Desktop will not divide e.g. 34 pages, at the obvious break of page 17 before printing the next 17 on the back. The obvious answer is to use a duplex printer (which I am close to buying) so I cannot say if this would be a solution. The Missing Sync does not seem to address this problem. Apple's Address Book is too rudimentary and Entourage not much better (e.g. It wont automatically shrink entries to fit on a page, or change font sizes)
Palm Desktop would be ideal if it were not for this bug. I have searched for other apps but none give the same level of flexibility that I know of......yet

There's a new way the Treo can interact with a Mac. Its SMS/MMS messages can now be backed up and viewed on a Mac, check it out here: http://www.funkeemonk.com/funkeestory/

I found a barebones tutorial for doing this without MissingSync here.
