BTW, twelve o'clock noon is 12:00 M (for "meridian", i.e. the sun is -- theoretically -- exactly at the local meridian at that moment). 12:00 PM (= "post meridian") is twelve hours after noon, i.e. twelve o'clock midnight, which can also be 12:00 AM (= "ante meridian", before noon). The built-in clock in Macintosh computers has it wrong too. Just thought you'd like to know.

Yes, but, theoretically, it would only be 'M' for an infinitesimal amount of time, assuming time is a real value and not integral, i.e. it would be PM as soon as the time reached 12:00:00.00000000...1 (where '...' is a number of zeros approaching infinity). So for all intents and purposes, the time can never really be 'M'.

Ooooo! A cool new home server for storing photos, music and movies! The Windows support is a great feature, they should sell millions of these things. Built in Time Machine for data recovery. Awesome!

Wow, yeah, Store's down already. They usually don't take it down until the Keynote actually starts. There must be some good stuff (and maybe quite a bit of it) coming, or, at least that's how I'm reading it. My wishful thinking perhaps, but I get the feeling in my bones that this keynote is gonna be big.
I can't WAIT for it to start already!! Bring it on Apple!

they better be adding a new god %$@^! iSight to that apple store or there's going to be hell to pay! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

How come no webcast this year /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I DID notice that the Apple online store is closed (pending new product announcements no doubt!)

Yeah - I am disappointed by that, too, though, in truth it has rarely worked very well for me. And I have fast computers and a very fast internet connection. I was hoping they would have worked out the issues this year - but apparently they felt them insurmountable, so decided to quit trying.

Wouldn't it be better (smarter) from a business perspective to move this event to, say November, just before the Christmas buying season?

Why don't they just televise it on cable TV?

Actually the "M" is for "meridiem", from the Latin for "middle of the day".

They haven't done a webcast with the last several Keynotes, don't know why. But you can see it on Quicktime in a couple of hours on the Apple website.

The reasons are simple, though unfortunate.
RTS (Real Time Streaming) takes a significantly larger ammount of bandwidth, that can't be interrupted, and a much more stable distribution network to do it. Combine this with the ability to do quick post-production on it, and archive it at the same time, and you have some compelling reasons to wait an hour or two.
In theory, akamai can handle this, but they've never really been able to. They handle distributed loads and distribution much better from web cache's though, which is why it is done this way (along with HUGE cost savings).

Greenpeace is retarded. Apple is probably the most socially conscious computer/consumer electronics company out there, but they feel the need to get camera time at their expense.

No offense, but this is probably why you are not the Apple CEO.
Christmas buying season is the time when old inventory can be sold at full price--and LOTS of it, clearing way in the distribution channels for new product. New products introduced right before Christmas would leave warehouses full of old product and the consumer confusion of whether they were buying the newest, latest and greatest or the older product would produce a less satisfactory buying experience.
So, in a word, the answer to your question is, NO.

In related new Apple just released the iMac Greenpeace edition, it is an iPotted plant. Greenpeace is still not happy as this would require user to wast precious water to keep the iPlant alive.
Can't win for loosing;-)

Yeah, it would certainly be better for us, the consumers. But definitely bad for Apple, the supplier. Besides, Apple always refreshes their lineup following the back-to-school period. That re-freshing is the "christmas" lineup. Two times when computer companies can clear out their distribution channels, christmas time and back to school time.
