I hate to say it man.... but I think Bill Gates won the keynote battles this year...

Why? Because he lied to the public and didn't tell them about the additional set-top box required to make the IPTV service work with an XBox 360? Yeah, lies and half-truths make great keynotes.

appleTV - WHY buy an AppleTV for $300 when I can go and get a Xbox 360 for the same price that does the exact same stuff? And it plays games...

Because they don't do the same things. I guess you don't understand that you can't listen to your iTMS purchased tracks through the 360, it doesn't support the encryption scheme. The 360 also requires you to have a Windows Media Center PC to do the video playback and it supports fewer formats than the AppleTV does. But why notice that, they do the same things, right?

Steve was not wearing traditional black..... what sux is it seems they have put the mac on the back burner when it has the best chance of taking over.

Does the color of the shirt matter? Come on, the Mac isn't on the back burner, they have other conferences to make future announcements, as they always do. They don't have a single forum like the CES.

Of course there's room for disappointment. I would have rather had a Leopard demo than Apple TV. And while the iPhone is amazing, Steve offered us up just 2 products that we can't get for months. I'd rather be using iLife '07 today. It's like getting my Atari 2600 when I was a kid and unwrapping the package just to find a picture of it that says "Ha ha. You have to wait 5 months".

COMPLAINT FORM
Check one of the follwing:
Apple has lost focus

No they haven't. The focus has shifted to Digital Hub, of which the Mac is the vital center. The scope of Apple's products is now much broader than computers: hence, the name change. No regrets. This is true progress and benefits not only Mac users, but far more people, many of whom will be far more likely to switch.

The iPhone is too expensive

No, it isn't. It's no more than Treos were at their introduction, but iPhone is MUCH smarter. If you can't see the value of OS X in your pocket, you're free to squander your dollars elsewhere.
Quote:

The iPhone has only 5 hours of battery life

That'll improve. The form factor is compelling at least. There will most likely be chargers available.
Quote:

The iPhone uses the Cingular network

Hey, I'm a Cingular customer! Many others like me.
Quote:

The iPhone holds as much as the Nano but costs ten times as much

Not comparable to a Nano. Apples and oranges in this case. And that's TWICE as much.
Quote:

The iPhone is a glorified Blackberry

No it's not, and you know it.
Quote:

The iPhone screen will crack

Most likely in YOUR hands! If you can think it you can do it!
Quote:

Steve Jobs has lost focus

Never been MORE focused. His wealth has not dulled him to dreaming and setting new goals. Focus stuck on only computers? Ridiculous. That would be suicidal.
He's a dedicated, dynamic, and charismatic leader, and his whole Apple team, including their respective families are behind him.
THAT'S the kind of focus any manager or company dreams of or cherishes.

No new iPods

Blind? Deaf? The iPhone IS an iPod--the best one yet!
Quote:

No new Macs

Not yet. Doesn't mean they're not on the way. They obviously are.

Well said, mcseufer.
If we step back a bit and look at the overall view, things are going great for Apple and for us Mac users as a result. Tiger, which compares favorably with Vista, is about to get an upgrade in the next few months. Since they are now powered by Intel, Macs will be getting upgrades at a rate much faster than they did in the G_n days. According to Jobs, half of all Macs are now being bought by non-Mac owners, and in the last several weeks it has become apparent that Mac sales are increasing in the face of stagnant overall computer sales. Now, Apple has two more product lines to show their stuff to the general public, products which in their initial incarnations are already pretty impressive. The future for all Apple products looks pretty bright to me, and that includes computers as well.

i think he was probably referring more to the fact that they invented the mouse itself...

Right except they didn't really invent the mouse. They can be credited with seeing it's potential and bringing it to the masses, but not it's invention, unless you consider removing buttons from the original design "inventive".

OK, I want to use the iPhone as a wireless computerless presentation remote:
1. Make Keynote or PowerPoint presentation on Mac or PC-Windows.
2. Save it to the iPhone.
3. Bring the iPhone with you and use it to give the presentation. No wires. No computers. Just the iPhone and a wireless videoprojector on the ceiling.
When is this going to happen? All the corporate, education and domestic markets will love it. Huge halo effect!
AND REMEMBER THAT I TOLD YOU ALL ABOUT THIS LAST YEAR:

But the Macworld Expo is supposed to be the highest profile Mac event for the general public. So Apple should be using this event to talk more about Mac hardware and Mac software.

Aren't people overlooking the FACT that this phone IS a computer. It is going to run OS X, for crying out loud and OPEN THE WAY FOR DESKTOP CLASS APPS on such a device. OS X developers should be happy.
I think it's going to be fun to see how this will affect major products on OS X.
AND wouldn't this be a killer combination - will Leopard recognize an iPhone and allow a "section" or "partition" of an iPhone to show up as a "place" or "user" on a Mac Book or Mac tower? Think of the possibilities that could bring. Not to mention the iDisk swapping capabilities.
I think today was meant to impress joe-iPod public and investors.
We are going to see A LOT of fun things sringing to life as this technology gets moving. When Steve said "reinvent" the telephone, he may as well have said "replace".
My two kopecks.

touche, upon further research. although technically, they took it back to one button, like the original invented by Douglas Engelbart /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
(am i that vastly knowledgable or is wikipedia involved?)
