While I might concur that Greenpeace is a bit dysfunctional, Apple is NOT nearly the most environmentally conscious ANY COMPANY out there. I'm not sure what you meant by "socially conscious", but Greenpeace is not about social consciousness, but environmental consciousness. Apple does need to step up its game, as it were, on environmental responsibility. They make enough money off of consumers to be a lot more responsible. It's like how car manufacturers must make their cars safer so that they can have repeat customers who remain alive after accidents and thus can come back to be repeat customers. Apple needs to be responsible for its impact on the environment so that its customers can remain healthy and wealthy and be repeat customers.
Just my opinion.

So midnight is actually 12:00 AM and PM, while noon is really just 12:00 M? That's interesting. Funny that the world uses so many acronyms that they loose their correct meaning and usage.

Yes, it's one of those cases where language changes because of the habit patterns of the ignorant, who also these days don't seem to know the difference between the possessive pronoun "its" and and the contraction "it's" (for "it is"), or between the intransitive verb "lie" ("lie down on the couch") and the transitive verb "lay" ("lay the book on the table"). The New World Order wants a dumbed-down, cheap, expendable workforce, and the American people seem to be happy to oblige.

Well, any country where the people are educated and it's presently noon.

Yes, but, theoretically, it would only be 'M' for an infinitesimal amount of time, assuming time is a real value and not integral, i.e. it would be PM as soon as the time reached 12:00:00.00000000...1 (where '...' is a number of zeros approaching infinity). So for all intents and purposes, the time can never really be 'M'.

Thanks, Zeno. Of course, by the same token, the time is 12:01 (or 12:01:01 etc.) PM only for an infinitesimal moment, and so on.

Actually the "M" is for "meridiem", from the Latin for "middle of the day".

Thanks for the correction; so it's the accusative case of "meridies", which Latin WORDS gives as "noon; midday; south".

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of good news for "Apple the company" today and people who use gadgets, but as a Mac user that statement really made my heart sink. There's so many things that seem wrong with that quote.

Wouldn't it be better (smarter) from a business perspective to move this event to, say November, just before the Christmas buying season?

The other problem would be that they probably couldn't deliver all that they would need for the Christmas season and then people would be really PO'd.

"2007 is going to be a great year for the Mac, but this is all we're going to talk about the Mac today,"
Well, we know what side the bread's buttered on these days, don't we? Maybe next year it won't even be called MACworld, it'll be "Apple-brandedDigitalLifestyleWorld." Gonna be tough to put all that on the front of the magazine, tho.
This "one more thing" better be pretty stunning. My iPod is an accessory, it doesn't hold my life. But my jobs -- both of 'em -- revolve around Mac computers. Don't let's lose sight of that, Steve; there are a lot of us out here who would like you to give the Mac platform more than lip service.
