Macworld Podcast: Expo Highlights

This Podcast had a listing of: "Macworld Podcast: The 15-minute Keynote." Without the iPhone, the Keynote came down to about 15 minutes. That what I expected to see. To think about it, Steve Jobs talked 2 hours about a product that was already talked about & said that would ship the first quarter 2007. All we found out new was its name, Apple TV 7 a narrowed range of February 2007 for a shipping date. Interesting, but non Mac.
The rest of the time he talked about the iPhone. Unless one already has cingular cell phone service or is willing to change to Cingular service, the iPhone just becomes an expense iPod Nano with some other features. This also was interesting to listen to, but will not enter into my future purchase plans. I'm one of those that do not have cingular service & do not plan to change from my current service. I already have an iPod Nano, iPod, a couple of Palms, cell phones that do all that I want a cell phone to do. This means that i would have been happy if Steve Jobs would have stopped after 30 minutes or less.
Of more interest is the much less overpriced Airport Extreme Base Station. I've always used 3rd party wireless routers. This time I have the most interest in this new model. I would have liked to have seen even a few minutes about Mac OS 10.5. Since iLife & iWork is tied into the OS changes, I was not surprised that there was no new iLife or iWork. Some expected some new Mac model to be shown. There's not much to be changed for awhile. That is a 6 month to a year change items. That may be in the future.
With this really just being a glorified iPod Keynote, it was fitting that Steve Jobs announced the change of the corporate name from Apple Computer, Inc. to Apple, Inc. Now our favorites Mac magazine needs to change its name to follow Apples lead. A name like iPodWorld would be more accurate the new Apple, Inc. The show;s name could be changed to iPod World.
After reading the downloads from your site & MacRumors, I feel that it would be a waste of time to listen & watch the Keynote QuickTime download. My lack of interest in this Keynote Address seems to be a lead-in to a Macless year. That will allow more non-Apple products. With all of the missing things in the MS Mac Office 2008, if it actually ships in 2007, will mean that MS will beat out Apple on my purchase roster. Add to that MS Office 2007 for $80 & MS Vista for $10 or less, both purchased through school for school use, would be added to MS's total.
Just think that in a couple of years when Apple comes out with OS 10.6, they will say that the Mac version of OS X is dead. That we are announcing that OS X will only be available on the iPod Phone, the iPod & the much expanded iPod SuperNano. Steve will announce that we must remember that Apple ceased to be a Computer Co. in 2007.
If IDG & MacWorld insists on keeping the name as MacWorld Show, Apple will say that we are the iPod Company, not the Mac company. Thus we will treat you the same as we did when we stopped the East Coast MacWorld Boston show. This means that starting in 2007, this MacWorld show, will be the nearly complete 3rd party MacWorld trad show.
The third party suppliers have always been my favorite. Until I got my 23" & 30' Apple displays, most people never knew that I used a Mac. macally keyboard, Kensington trackball, several Mac Clones, (still my favorites), & HP laser printers from when Apple had their A Apple versions of the same printer.
I hope that Apple keeps enough of their energy in the non iPod Mac. We all need a computer to use. Linux is not for everyone. Windows is just a good reminder of why we use Macs.
A year since we've had a MacWorld Conference supported by Apple.
Keep up the coverage of the Mac & all of its loyal 3rd party developers of both hardware & software. Help keep the Computer in our Apple, Inc. purchases.
