I've been working for quite some time now on finding a way to greatly extend my AirPort's range. I think I've finally discovered a working solution. I'm using some equipment from HyperLink Technologies (www.hyperlinktech.com), along with some home-made stuff to create an ultra-long-range system.
The system I'm setting up won't be cheap (initial estimates calculate about $800), but it has been a hell of a good time. I sure hope it works, though, because I'm looking for something like Apple originally promised, the wireless network throughout the house - but in my single-story 8000-square-foot house, with some point being through 14 walls.
The point of the topic is: Coming later next week, I'm going to have a complete diary (including pictures) of the complete setup, along with instructions on making your own similar setup.
I'm waiting on a final shipment of parts from HyperLink, which will arrive Tuesday. I ordered today (saturday), but they won't be able to ship until Monday, so it won't arrive until Tuesday. As soon as I get everything hooked up and working, I'll write the diary.
So, if you're planning on extending your AirPort range, or if you're just looking for a good 'Diary' (something not seen since Andy Gore's old drool-a-licious diaries on the original TiBook), keep checking back, and look for it soon. I'm going to try to post it Thursday or Friday, but on the weekend for sure.
