I got a light gray overlay on my monitor screen and a dialog box that told me to restart my computer with the power button. This is been happening more than twenty times in the last 24 hours . I am panicking now. This is happening 15 minutes after I turn on my computer. I went Activity Monitor>First Aid>Verify disk and there seem to be a problem there because there were at least three lines of red text with the word "illegal". What should I do? Any ideas? Aldo

Hi
There are a lot of linked articles within each of these but here are the three I'd pick to be the most useful...
Apple Knowledge Base Article #25392 - Isolating issues in Mac OS X
Apple Knowledge Base Article #106214 - Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
Apple Knowledge Base Article #106227 - What's a "kernel panic"? (Mac OS X)

You're not alone panicking, you're kernel is to (what you see is a kernel panick). If your computer is still under warranty, the easiest would be to bring it to a Mac service store. It looks like your HD can be failing or you have some sort of hardware problem.
If you prefer and the links provided above are not enough, we can try to troubleshoot a bit more before, but without panicking /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And welcome to the forum. So bad that it's in those circumstances.

I had this same problem with my ibook a month after I got it. Luckily the ibook was still under warranty and they gave me a whole new hard drive, etc.
