MacMail weird behavior

Hello,
I am helping a friend with her Mac. She's running Mac Mail 2.0.3 on OS X 10.4.2. Mail occasionally (sometimes every few minutes) copies email from the Inbox into the Outbox, then tries to send the message. The email is copied unmodified, so this creates an error, because you can't send email from somebody else's email account. I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. Does anybody have a suggestion?

Before going any farther, you should probably run Software Update. Both the OS(10.4.2) and the version of Mail.app (2.0.3) your friend has installed are out of date. She should be at 10.4.9 for OSX, and 2.1.1 (I believe) for Mail.
