Noise in stereo output when connected to TV

I have a MacBook Pro. Sounds on the built-in speakers and stereos connected through the output jack are fine. However, whenever I connect the MBP (DVI to VGA) to the LCD HDTV I have (in addition to output stereo speakers), some sort of back ground noise persisted. The noise does not appear when disconnected from the TV. Has anyone encountered this problem? Does anyone know a solution to this?

I suggest you have a ground loop problem. Here's a fix:
