the title says it all...
it always did, until a couple of days ago when I began to experience a number of problems (see my posts "printer error" and "address book wiped out"
now, it doesn't seem to see it at all. If I use Canon ImageBrowser it works.

no replies so far, so I'll update by saying that my other Mac's iPhoto has no problem recognizing the same camera.
Is there some way to "re-set" iPhoto? or perhaps restoring a file/folder from Retrospect that's causing the problem?
(kind of like trashing preferences in Logic...something I used to have to do a lot in OS 9 when things went awry)
thanks in advance!

Open the application Image Capture and check the preferences and make sure that somehow the choice in the drop down menu "When A Camera Is connected" isn't set to do nothing. If it's not, did Image Capture recognize the camera anyway?

it wasn't set to do anything, but I set it to open iPhoto, then connected the camera, but nothing happened.
I'm not sure if I correctly did what you suggested...the wording was a little confusing to me.
