I have a Link-sys WPS54G wireless print server that is hooked up to a HP PSC 2410 photosmart printer. The print server seems to work fine when I use a windows computer, but I can't get the macs to work. I can't seem to find the driver that will work with this. Is there a solution? I just want to be able to print wirelessly as the printer is actually on a different floor in the house.
Both macs (powerbook G4 and Ibook G4) work fine with the printer when I hook the USB directly to the macs.
I downloaded the gimp print drivers, but I don't see it in there either.
This was supposed to be a birthday present for a friend, and I can't get it to work. Any help will be appreciated.
What am I doing wrong?
thanks....
Mack

Well, you've already figured out that the HP-provided driver only does direct-connect USB, right?
You need a CUPS driver to use the CUPS network printing protocols in OS X (IP printing & Windows printing). Here are the sources of CUPS drivers I know of:
http://www.linux-fou...Printing/macosx
http://sourceforge.n...files.php?groupid=1537
http://www.printfab.net
http://www.easysw.com/printpro/
I don't see the PSC 2410 directly listed in any of these. I think you need to experiment - try the HP Deskjet 900 Series Gimp-Print or 990C Gutenprint driver.
Then for the print server, make sure you read the manual and select the correct protocol - and enter the device's queue name (from the manual) where required.

Reiterating a point gsahli made, follow the manual very explicitly on the protocol and queue name. I thought I could change the queue name to be easy, for whatever reason, the print server was very unforgiving on having a different queue name than what was in the manual.

I registered just to help out here, since i just solved the same problem with that same printer.
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show[/u]printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_990C
Go there, and get the PPD file for the deskjet 990C
When adding the printer to use with a linksys print server, put these values in... first select "IP Printing." Then under protocol, select "Line Printer Daemon - LPD"... for some reason i couldn't get IPP to work. Then under "Queue" type "lp" in lowercase... it also won't work if that's not correct. Name it whatever you want, use the IP address you've already configured.
Now here's where that PPD file comes in. Where it says "Print Using" select "other" from the drop down box... a file open dialog opens up. Select that PPD file for the deskjet that you just downloaded, and voila, printing works.
Since I am not a regular at this forum, if you have trouble, email me at "thefitzvh@gmail.com"
Hope this helps. You'll also notice that if you go to that linuxprinting.org site and select the PSC 2410, I've added the above info to the page.
