I'm new to Macs and have a quick question. When I'm at a site like Photobucket, or Shuttefly, and I need to upload pictures, I have to select each pic by file name before I can see it, and I can only select one item at a time. Is there some way to change the settings so that I can see all the pics in the folder at once? And what keys do I need to press to select a second item and keep the first item selected as well?
I hope that made sense lol.

That's not a Mac question. You get what a site's webmaster
offers you. The platform or browser or OS doesn't matter.

I think he's talking about uploading pictures from the Mac to one of those sites. There's no icon view in the Open dialog, so you can't see just pictures. You may be able to select more than one by using the Command (Apple) key, but they may depend on which browser you're using.

Are you using iPhoto? In iPhoto (the app, not the finder) you can select as many photos as you want and export them to a folder (or individually, if you wish) on the desktop and then to Photobucket, etc. Is that what you are trying to do?

When I got my first Mac a year ago I asked a similar question on this forum. This is what I do:
Go into iPhoto and select the pictures you're going to want to upload. You can do this by holding the "Apple button" while mouse-clicking. Once you have the pics highlighted, EXPORT the pics to your desktop. This will copy the selected pics, not move them. I personally create a Pics folder on my desktop to reduce clutter and have my pics exported there. Once you export them on to you your desktop, you now have a very convenient and easy way of finding the pics you want uploaded. Once uploaded, you can TRASH the pics on your desktop. This will not affect your originals within iPhoto.
OR
If I have an idea of where the original image file is, I'll just use the COLUMN view of the upload dialog box. With this viewing option, you can just use your arrow keys to easily navigate through the different folders/files. You can press the UP/DOWN arrows on the image files and you'll see thumbnails of the images.
This should help you out. Good luck and welcome to Macs!

I think you are asking about thumbnail views of you picture files seeing the icon of a picture of what's in the file. You can do this on the desktop by choosing "Show icon preview" from the View menu, when you are in the Finder.
If you want to convert you picture icons to thumbnails, either individually, or in a complete batch, download the nifty (and free) Pic2Icon, then you can have folders full of (small) picture icons.

But that's exactly the problem. You can't see more than one preview icon in either list or column view in a file select dialog. If you want to upload 5 pics in a big folder, and select them, once you select more than one, the preview disappears. How are you supposed to keep more than one selected and know what you have? When you are in an Open dialog, Windows allows thumbnail previews in icon view. The Mac limits you to only list and column, and that is sooo weak.
I prefer sites that have a Mac uploader or plug-in that lets you select multiple images and preview them all in the uploader window. Costco Photo's plug-in (by Snapfish) is one. Even better are drag-and-drop Mac uploaders where you pick your photos in the Finder or other app in Icon view and drag them into the uploader utility in one step. Try to use sites that have good Mac upload tools.
But all those are workarounds for the basic fact that this is yet another reason the Mac Finder and file open dialogs are currently inferior to Windows in the area of graphics previews. It has been this way for so many years, I wonder if Apple will get around to fixing those in Leopard Finder.

Thanks guys :0) I thought I might just be overlooking a button or something, but now I know there is no icon preview equivelant. I'll be moving to Snapfish /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
