Counter-Strike isn't available for the Mac. It's derived from Half-Life, and Half-Life has never been released for the Mac. Same goes for Counter-Strike Source, as that's Half-Life 2 based. You will need Windows, alas.

Half-Life has never been released for the Mac, not in a platinum pack or anything else. You're mistaken.
Halo is available for the Mac -- it's published by MacSoft.
Please be careful about talking about "downloading" in the context of "downloading windows" or other software. We have no tolerance for discussing software piracy here and will delete such messages and, if necessary, ban the poster.

New Macs can run Windows, but it's not a special version - it's just the retail version of Windows that you can buy anywhere. It must be XP SP2 or Vista, however.
"noeone said anything about piracy."
Thought not explicitly stated, you certainly brought it up when you wrote "...download Windows." Like OS X, Windows isn't available for download from any legitimate retail vendor.

You're new here and I'm cutting you some slack. Telling the admins to "take a pill" isn't probably your smartest move, so please, wise up.
Yeah, the same version of Windows that works on a PC works on a Mac too, and works pretty well, though you'll end up sacrificing some partition space for it.

will any multiplayer game on mac play online w/ people with windows?
will any multiplayer game on mac play online w/ people with windows?
It's really on a case by case basis. I'm afraid there isn't a pat answer that covers all bases.
Some game conversions for Mac do support multiplayer gaming with the PC -- especially games that use good cross-platform engines like Doom 3 and Unreal Tournament. Others that used DirectPlay to manage online play in their Windows releases aren't.
There are a few cases where online play has been dependent on some technology that isn't easily portable between platforms. Command & Conquer Generals comes to mind.
Intel Mac-optimized games that use TransGaming's Cider technology, like EA's new releases, should retain their PC compatibility for online play, as well.

Apple's Macintosh Product Guide will help you find some. I'd also recommend checking out Macgamefiles.com.

I know you said you don't want Windows, but as Peter has mentioned, some games just aren't available on a Mac. You might consider having a windows partition that you run via BootCamp JUST for gaming (assuming you have an Intel mac). If you don't do anything else via Windows, it (probably) won't go crashing on you all the time.
