What type of WD external is it? One of the Passports or a My Book or something else? How is it connected? USB? If a Passport and connecting by USB, are you connecting with only 1 USB cable or two (I believe that Passport drive come with a Y type USB cable)? Is this the first time you have used the WD drive?

well, WD passport 120G,1 USB 2.0,5.4k rpm.
i know it connected properly as i have tried to add other things in it. it does not show any problems with any other apps or access.
BTW it partitioned to 40G for HFS+ & remaining for MS-DOS.

While I am not sure if it is the issue or not, I would try hooking it up with the two USB ports of the Y style cable (if one is supplied). It is possible that the drive is not getting enough power on a consistant basis. If so, then it could work at times and not work at other times. If that is the case, then using two USB ports should solve the power problem. I would suggest giving it a try.

Or if it came with one connect the external power supply to the external drive.
