can I make yahoo my default outgoing mail on my ibook g4 os x? I don't subscribe to .mac. gene

I am assuming that you are talking about using Yahoo Mail with the built-in Apple Mail email client. If so, the assuming that Yahoo Mail has SMTP outgoing email server to use (i.e. you are NOT forced to just use web based email), then the answer is "yes". You can set any email account that can use an email client as your "default" outgoing email account. I am assuming that Yahoo Mail will provide POP/SMTP settings, but since I don't use it and some web based free email accounts DON'T, I cannot be sure.

If you have the full paid Yahoo mail service, then you have access to both Yahoo's POP and SMTP services from any email client. If you are talking about the free Yahoo mail, then no, it is web mail only.
