Since Sherlock quit working I had been using moviefone (movies.aol.com). Until this past weekend I had been able to view the trailers. I no longer can view them and I don't know what to try. After I click on the link for the trailer I get a new page but the area where the trailer would be is blank.
I deleted safari preferences in my user library, tried another account, and repaired permissions.
The only thing I changed, and that was after the problem, was I updated to Quicktime 7.2 from 6.5.

Well, it looks like this site uses Adobe's Flash player to present their trailers. Example on this page:

So, make sure you have the most recent version of Flash player installed?
Or simply go elsewhere for movie trailers...such as Apple's trailer page that uses a proper video format (Quicktime) to display movie trailers instead of the bowl of festering pus that is Flash.

Yup, they're FLVs (Flash Videos). I've no trouble seeing or downloading them.
You might try enhancing your QuickTime with Perian:

Thanks for answering. I downloaded the newest version of Flash Player, but it won't install. I closed my browser but get the message telling me I have open browsers that I need to quit before intalling.
I know I can view the trailers on other sites, but I still want to see if I can find out why I can no longer view them on moviefone when I could about a week ago.

As I said, I had no trouble viewing them until a week ago. I never tried downloading them.
Thanks for the suggestion, but Perian requires 10.4 and I am only using 10.3.9.
Neither Quick Time 6.5 or the current 7.2 was/is "Pro" versions.

Ah, a lightbulb maybe comes on.
There is no "safari" reason for Adobe Flash Player not installing.
There may be, however, a "system" reason.
What, if any, HD diagnosis/repair tools do you have? I suggest
getting Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro and checking out your
HD.
For a free solution that often works wonders, get AppleJack:

It's a "terminal" app (Oooh, scary!) that takes most of the typing
out of invoking several Unix repair utilities. Once installed, restart
in single-user mode (splat-S or Command-S), and AppleJack
will talk you through everything.
Who knows? Might help.

You might check the QuickTime setting in the System Prefs. I believe some folks were having problems with this type of thing on Windoze machines and the problem turned out to be QuickTime taking over the playing of Flash movies in the IE plug-in settings.
On the Mac, there are settings in the QuickTime settings that tell QuickTime which stuff to "play" and which to not play. Try going to the QuickTime settings in Systen Prefs and go to the Advanced tab. There should be MIME Settings... button. See if the "Flash Media" under Miscellaneous is check or not. Also, see if the Enable Flash is checked in the Advanced tab.
Don't know if this will help, but worth a try.

It isn't "Safari" that kept me from installing the newer Flash. It was the Flash installer that wouldn't let me continue with the install. The Flash installer said I had open browsers when I did not. I tried trashing the installer and downloading it again, but had the same results.
I don't have Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro. All I have is the TechTool Deluxe that came with Applecare. It doesn't show any problems.
I read up a little on AppleJack, I may try it later.

In QuickTime MIME settings Flash Media under miscellaneous is not checked. Enable Flash is not checked in the advanced tab. If I understood you correctly, that is how they should be.

I am not really sure how they should be. I am assuming that they should NOT be checked unless you want Quicktime to handle those media formats. Thought is was worth a "looksee" to see if it might help! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have you tried downloading the new Flash installer, keeping it, rebooting the computer, and then try installing it? Maybe Safari was not closing "cleanly" and a reboot might solve that.

You might try the PPC-only version of the Flash installer. Might be that you've inadvertantly downloaded the Intel or Universal Binary version and that's why you're having trouble installing.
