Did I read this correct?
2.8 Speeds? That should be blazing! What about the GPU, anyone in the know (Enthusiasts-over clockers), is this a good GPU?
i.e. Will FCP and Motion run on this? Still, I wish they had 2 HD's for pro's.
Not sure the external 800 is fast enough to stream samples.
But 2.8, thats faster than the MBP! Are you sure about the 2.8 speeds? What is the cost for this?!?!?

Yeah. The thing is, there are anti-glare, anti-reflective coatings for glass that can make the glass seem truly invisible. A few of the CRTs that I have have that and their images are very nice and easy to look at.

Except that then they no longer become glossy. And, according to Jobs, people want glossy. Glossy is the whole point. They WANT the glare and the reflectivity.
Moronic, but there it is.

I was highly disappointed with the company saying they were going to focus on the Mac and then for Steve to say that they were simply upgrading the iMac. Wow! Shades of "Back to School". What about the rest of us who have waiting for a mid-range desktop or tower model that I can hook up to a monitor?
thanks for nothing today.

It's all about engineering from now on in. How can I engineer it so that my wife will be convinced that we NEED this. All of it. Even the stuff that hasn't been announced yet. Compromises, deals, juggling of accounts, re-prioritisation. Followed by a carefully planed sequence of events including showing of pictures, a visit to the apple store, etc etc. Subtly does it. Its gonna take a few weeks but I'll get there. Oh yes.

And the zealots come to defend Steve...
The "AIO works for everyone" mindset is terrible. Sure, some people don't mind having what is essentially a MacBook reworked as a desktop. Many others don't. It still doesn't change the fact that the iMac has all the disadvantages of a laptop but without the benefit of mobility.
If cables are so ugly, why aren't there better built-in speakers or wireless printers or other wireless peripherals. Why put in all these expansion ports?
And where did the graphics upgrade option go? The 2400XT is a god awful card. I wouldn't want to drive a 24" screen with it. Why did Steve bother to trot out the head of EA Games to announce Mac versions of their products?
I'm just glad that they'll have no choice but to sell boxed copies of Leopard for Intel. It will be simply a matter of time before it's cracked to run on standard PC hardware. Then all of us bitching about the iMac will simply be able to run it on expandable hardware.

I CAN tolerate the glossy screens.. however.. however I'm not to sure about that keyboard.
A. Its seems awfully flat and low.
B. No numerical pad? Some laptop users may be use to this. I however rely on it for my work.
C. Seems like they tried to squash as much as possible onto a small keyboard.

I would wager that had everything to do with color accuracy: number of colors displayed, even backlighting, % of whichever gamut range, etc.
Gloss was just a byproduct of the glass tube, unavoidable with that product. Glare due to glossy screens or glass picture tubes, regardless of the consumer or pro environment, is absolutely undesirable imo.
I will not buy any product that has a glossy screen. I recently bought two products and I've returned one brand new pc tablet due to the glossy screen reflecting every lightbulb, window, ... the basic notebook I'm keeping around to run a few windows apps, but I can't stand the screen. And there are no alternatives. Throughout the pc industry everybody is going glossy. Just now you start to see again some options (built to order) to have a matte or a indoor/outdoor screen.

Agreed (though that wasn't said), and so is the attitude that "because they didn't announce what I wanted, this is an awful announcement." Apple will target their products for those who will most likely buy them. Their recent success in this area demonstrates to me that they know something about their business and potential customers.

Yes, the announcement of new iMacs is indeed the Darkest Day in Apple History. Every person who is responsible for this abomination should commit suicide. I hate Apple. I hate my mommy.
All you whiners need to go talk to your parents and find out why you weren't given more love.
We're potential customers. We life in a free-market capitalist society. We can complain all we want.
