I already have iLife 06 and don't use iMovie that much. I guess I'll do a custom install and just not update iMovie.

As I understand iLife '08, it updates everything, iPhoto, iweb etc..EXCEPT iMovie '06.... which it leaves intact on your hard drive.
So you can run either...

Even David Pogue over the NY Times seems to dislike it (and he's probably writing a manual book for it right now, too.)
Pogue on iMovie08

Im new on this forum and to the hole mac world. Loving it though. I have pro-tools on my Imac10.4.10 version and this is what I mainly use my imac for.
I do want to take advantage of the other software on the computer
I have a handycam and wanted to import the footage from to Imovie. When draggin files to my hardrive and tryin to import them to imovie it gives me an error saying QuickTime couldnt parse it.
I dont want to do major stuff with this but would love to do basic editing and burn it. It this a simple fix or is everyting thing compatible.
Thanks for your help

What version of iMovie are we talking about?
Not sure what you are doing when you say "dragging files"?
You "Import" footage into iMovie via your handycam....
