problems iphone screen? or charging?

hello,
My iphone screen does not turn on yet when i plug it into itunes its recognizable. I left it charging for more than 6 hrs yet the charge icon does not show up. It might not be charging correctly or a problem with the screen i think. Any suggestions on what to do so I can fix this problem. I tried some of the suggestions on the apple website still can get it to work.
