I was installing Boot Camp and was at the point were it partitions the HDD when I stupidly walked off and left my MacBook alone. The next thing I know our little eighteen month old one man wrecking machine is at the machine. It was completely switched off when I got to it and now the HDD cannot be seen even when I try to re-install OS X.
Anybody got any ideas how I can recover the HDD before I raid my kids piggy bank to buy a new one?

Disk Utility in the OS X installer won't see the disk? i.e. boot off the install CD, then look up in the menus (after you're a step or two into the install process) and you can run a few apps; Disk Utility is one of them.

Already tried it.
The only disc it sees is the DVD.

What happens if you hold down command-S during boot (without the cd in the drive)?

Nothing.
It just goes to the question mark.
I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new HDD tomorrow, I needed the extra capacity anyway.

That's a bummer, man. I've got little ones at home as well. I know how it is. I guess this is a good time to preach to you and say, "keep things out of reach". /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It is amazing how many things you think are out of reach that you later find out are NOT out of reach. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I don't have kids, but listened with amusement to stories from my cousin.

I could lock all my valuables in a safe and the little git would still find a way in. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
New 160GB drive is installed anyway and working.

My cousin's youngest managed to find a way to get into the computer room and find the digital camera and joyfully starting taking pictures of the floor, ceiling, walls, etc. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
