Hi
Would appear that Apple isn't in the market to make well from iPod speakers.
As reported by rumor sites like...
Mac Rumors: Other Points of Interest: iPod Hi-Fi, Universal Dock, iPod Component Video
Think Secret - Briefly: New iPods due soon, Leopard 9A527 goes to developers
...The Apple - iPod Hi-Fi product page yet remains but when you click on Buy Now...

P.S. Sorry if this has been posted already.

I was doing some big city shopping recently and found a very big supply of non-Apple branded iPod accessories. I don't know if all those companies are making money but clearly Apple is not getting the profit from them.
I'm ready to buy the iPod Touch now but am waiting to find out if or which accessories work with it. I'm also waiting to find out if I can do webmail with the Touch.
Apple created a big market but is not always collecting on its prize.

yes seen this story(Hifi speaker) already (but only in MCW UK MCW UK regarding HiFi ), anyway, it was apparently a good speaker BUT very expensive for what it was - lacked design, speaker only (no other functions like radio etc) etc. There are so many other cool speakers out there (for the iPod) and its very hard to compete. JBL has great deign, Philips has currently launched some new iPod models ( /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif basically giving up on their own models) and the list goes on. Tough market...

I own an iPod Hi-Fi and I have never heard any iPod speakers like it. I use my 5G and touch with it and it couldn't sound better. I even use it in the car when I'm traveling, I love it. I don't know why Apple stopped making them, I sure loved the Hi-Fi, and I don't think it was a failure at all.
