Pleas help, Quake 3 engine/Jedi Knight 2 customiza

I have PackRat for OS X and the Jedi Knight 2 demo. i was wondering how I would replace the Kyle player model with one I downloaded off the net. I will be getting the full game on Friday at MacWorld SF, so if I need that, still give me the directions. Thanks a lot.
Also, if there's a good guide to making Quake 3 models with any OS X program, I'd be interested.

To add player models or levels to JK2, place the .PK3 files in the Jedi Knight II/base folder. I'm not sure of any OSX applications for Quake III modeling. Maya mabe?

I know that will add the model, but when you play through single player, you can't choose your model. I think I have to replace some files that contain the kyle katarn model inside one of the original .pk3 files. If you know a really good complete newB tutorial for Maya 4.5 (PLE is the greatest idea!), that'd be good. I haven't used it before in my life. Thanks

lol. I got really excited when someone replied. oh well. Apperantly the mod makers can modify the .pk3 files that you download to overwrite the Kyle Katarn model. I haven't figured how to do it to anymodel myself, but there are a few that you can download that work for single player. I am playing through the game as Blade right now :-)
