Good article and even more true now that the iPod Touch has been introduced.
To me the best system ever was the "clip on your shirt" remote.
I really missed that when I got my 5G and while it is nice to have the rudimentary control on the earbud cable for the iPhone it is not a substitute for that original remote.
I can only imagine how unusable the "iTouch" is without the earbud control or the ability to change the volume via external buttons.

The unfortunate thing is that, as Jason Snell has noted to me several times, if Apple's own Radio Remote worked -- even just as a remote -- with the iPhone and iPod touch, that would be a great solution.
