OK, so I've got the most recent version of iPhoto, and learned with the previous version about how iPhoto created duplicate versions of all images (original and modified).. so I was going to go into the library today to whittle out some redundant images to free up some space on my hard drive.. lo and behold, when I go to the Finder>Picture>Pictures ... the "iPhoto library" was no longer there... now it's just a single icon representing the entire iPhoto library, which cannot be explored through the Finder application.
So - I went into iPhoto to see if I could change the preferences to show the library in the Finder - no luck.. then I looked for an option to define where iPhoto looks for the library (I was thinking about moving the entire library to an external hard drive for more space)... couldn't find that either.
So - the problem is, my 60gb hard drive on my Macbook only has 1.2 gb of room left, my iPhoto library is almost 30gb... so I need to do something to move the library to an external drive.. can someone help me out?

The iPhoto library is a "package". You can still browse it by right-clicking on it and selecting "show package contents". That said, "whittling" your library manually is not really a good idea. You could corrupt it quite easily.
As for moving your library, it's quite simple (although I admit, not obvious). Close iPhoto and drag the library file to its new home. Now, launch iPhoto while holding down the option key. iPhoto will display a dialog asking you to select the location of a library file. Do this, and iPhoto will remember the new location.

AWESOME.. .thanks! Yeah, there's no way I would have thought to do that!! I have to admit, that's one of the FEW frustrating things about being an Apple owner, is all the crazy keyboard shortcuts and strange keystroke/mouse combinations that are necessary to do things like this, instead of having it be an option in the toolbar. Despite that little flaw/frustration - I will NEVER go back to a PC /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
again, thanks for the help!

I agree wholeheartedly - stay out of the finder! Much too easy to corrupt. That's why Apple changed to the package -- to keep users out! Try iPhoto Diet to reduce the clutter in your library. It has several options, one, for instance, to delete the original of a rotated photo. Just be sure you pay attention to what you are telling it to do, so you don't lose photos that you don't want to lose.
