So I'd like to run my PowerMac G4 headless but I haven't found a way to remote control it without shelling out $300 for Apples Remote Desktop application. I've tried VNC but have been less then impressed with performance. Remote Desktop to a PC from my MacBook is great - very usable - but VNC... not so much...
Suggestions??

If you want something economical that is not VNC, check out:

Hmm... I am using Chicken of the VNC client, which seems to be highly thought of. I'll try a different client and see if that helps. I've also tried running a VNC server as well as using OS X's built in VNC sharing, neither giving better or worse performance.
Specifically, I am logging in to my iMac from my MacBook - so neither should have performance issues contributing.
I'll try JollyFast - maybe it'll work as the name proclaims! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

After a day with JollyFast and it's still not quite as seemless as a native remote desktop program, but I think that's the nature of VNC versus terminal services (which is what I am used to). Compared to CotVNC, it's a lot faster though and a really like the way it scales the VNC server image down to fit the client window. One of the machines I remotely control is a 24" iMac and the 1920 x 1200 resolution doesn't quite fit on my 1280 x 800 MacBook screen /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
