My imac had no sound at all (like it had no fans) and the glass and on the top of my machine was so hot even the warmth from the glass bothered my eyes.
Now I got the fans blowing loud and would rather have that then burning up my imac.
I have to take it down and get a new fan censer or something so I think I will put up with the noise then burn up my
$1800.00 Imac.

To clarify the obvious, the iMac was shut down all devices were unplugged except the keyboard and
mouse then the power cord was unplugged from the back of the iMac.
What is interesting to me, when the iMac is shut down every evening a power strip is turned off that cuts off power to iMac, printers and external hard drives. So there is no power available every night? But unpluging the cord from the back of the iMac worked??

Thanks That Worked fir me too.

Mine just did that to me about 15 minutes ago. I first thought it was the vent in my room. So then I walked over and heard my iMac's fan going completely nuts. This is the first time that's ever happened. As most of you pointed out the fan doesn't even make a peep. So I restarted my iMac and the fan was still nuts. Then I shutdown it took about 2 seconds after shutdown for the fan to stop running. About 15 to 20 seconds later I turned it back on. The fan was a little more claimer, and as I was reading this post it claimed down completely. Hopefully that was the first and last time it will happen. But if it happens again, then I now know what to do because of this post. Thanks for the tips everyone.
