Peter Cohen checks in from Iceland, where he's attending the fourth annual EVE Online Fanfest. The massively multiplayer game will soon make its Mac debut. [more]

I envy you, Peter, for spending some time in Reykjavik. It's a cool town.

Peter,
If you can spare a few hours, don't pass on the "mandatory" trip to the Blue lagoon, a little south west of Reykjavk. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
And if you had one or two days, don't miss Gullfoss, near Geysir. It's not far away from Reykjavik anyway. But a little further to the east, there are wonderful landscapes in the Landmannalaugar area. Amazing...
Enjoy your time in Iceland! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I know, I know. I've been told a trip to Iceland without seeing the Blue Lagoon is like a trip to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately, circumstances did not agree with me. Our trip was scheduled for last night (Thursday), but I'd been up for forty hours straight (a symptom of jet lag and the hotel not having my room ready when I checked in at 8:00 AM on Thursday -- one can hardly blame them, though, the check-in time isn't until 2). It was also blowing an icy rain at 50 miles per hour, so I decided to stay put. As it is, I slept for 13 hours, so I guess I needed the rest. I'm disappointed -- I had really looked forward to seeing it.

How are the performance numbers of running eve online on Mac versus the PC version? I am curious how the whole cider middle layer affects the performance.
Thanks.

I had to pull Boot Camp from my MacBook Pro because of space issues, so I can't compare them directly. What TransGaming says is that Cider runs about 15 percent slower than the Windows version does. If the built-in frame counter in EVE is accurate, I'm seeing mid-40s for frames per second on average.
