Iceland is great when it's cold outside. Enjoy a swim in one of hundreds of hot springs, the Blue Lagoon being the most famous. There is something positively wrong, yet so right when the air is below freezing, yet you're outside enjoying a swim in waters that are well above body temperature.
And now that we are closing in on the winter solstice, pray for a clear night when you can see the Northern Lights.

Yeah. I passed. Everyone who said that they went to the Blue Lagoon while it was raining down frozen rain and hail had an absolutely miserable time, especially with fierce gale winds blowing.
Anyway, I'm back home, so I'll have to save more Icelandic adventures for next year's Fanfest.

Not everyone. Some of us would beg to differ at that lame assessment that "everyone" gave you.

I don't think you're understanding this, and I don't quite understand why you're finding fault here. There were very strong, gale-force winds, frozen rain and it was cold. Even the Icelanders that went didn't enjoy themselves. The CEO of the company apologized during his keynote address. It was not a good time, your romantic perspective of Iceland notwithstanding.

I can only speak for the members of The Red Skull Alliance who attended the Blue Lagoon trip but despite the freezing rain and winds which rendered the short journey from the back door of the warm change rooms to the plunge in to the lagoon itself probably a true "trial of ice and fire", it was one of the craziest yet enjoyable parts of the trip.
Admittedly getting out again was very daunting indeed, especially as you only had about 3 seconds before you froze and given the visibility through iced over eyeballs, a wrong/locked door was a strong possibility at which point I think there was absolutely no return.
There was a strong contingency of people who were prepared to sit the weather out all night in one of the hot spots if only they had a snorkle.
All in all I think that weather made it all the more memorable.

Yeah, but don't take Psyman's word for it. These Red Skull guys are certifiable. All of them. Bloody lunatics! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh Peter, I am sure you will see the way of The Red Skull soon, enthusiast turns to hard core eventually, I think the trial of ice and fire would have tipped you over to our pirate ways. Maybe next year.... yaaaar
