Am in the process of editing some videos for a video presentation. Unfortunately, the source of my videos comes from an MPEG recorder which is hooked to a PC. The raw MPEG data from the MPEG recorder is not recognized by Final Cut Express or iMovie. I tried exporting the raw video into either MPEG 1 or 2 using Adobe Premier Pro from a PC and saving it on a disc but Final Cut Express and iMovie only recognizes MPEG1 (which has lousy quality) and not the MPEG2 of the same video. What can I do or what should I do? Also, what are the video formats that can be used with Final Cut Express and iMovie? What programs or devices can help me convert video formats to ones that are recognized by Final Cut Express and iMovie?

The tools I use for this are MPEG Streamclip (FREE) and Quicktime Pro ($29.99). All the Mac formats are posted on the Apple site. HTH
You'll get more responses from better video posters who will want to know MPEG recorder brand names so they can see your work process, file formats that you are getting from the PC, and the final output you are trying to make. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks edmetric for the response. Pardon my ignorance but where can I find a "better video poster".

/forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Well, your post has only been up a couple of hours. Wait until the big guns finish work, have a beer or two and then check the forum. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A little More information would help.
What kind of camera was used to record? MPEG 1 or 2 is just the codec, What is the file extension? Not that its important. Information does help, Most hard drive cameras shoot in a Windows format with a few exception this year.
