I'm running 10.5.1 and Entourage 11.3.6 (with all the latest updates).
Every time I create a new recurring event with a custom recurrence (i.e. "Every fourth Friday), Entourage hangs and then crashes. This was working fine under Tiger.
Specifically, as soon as I select Custom from the Occurs menu on the New Event dialog box, a blank window is displayed (titled Recurring Event), the beach ball spins, and then Entourage quits; partial text from Crash Reporter below.
This, by the way was a fresh format and reinstall everything with the Leopard update, so I don't have old prefs gumming up the works.
Any ideas?
thx,
Larry

Hi Larry

Did you ever solve this? I am having the same crash on custom recurring appointments / Entourage2004/Leopard.

I haven't found much help on any message boards. Anything you learned would be useful to me!

Thanks!

Mark.

No luck. The only workaround I've found is creating them in iCal and using sync services to move to Entourage.

For what it's worth I encountered the same problem when I went to Leopard. Entourage simply crashes when you try to enter a recurring event. I am curious, however, to hear someone suggest they can enter a recurring event in iCal and have that turn up in Entourage. My experience has been that Entourage can synchronize its entries with iCal, but not vice versa. It's a one-way street. Am I missing something?

I hadn't ever created a recurring event in Entourage, so I thought I'd go give it a shot. I did it without a hitch. The only difference would be that I'm running Mac OS 10.5.2. Are you still running 10.5.1? Your thread is a little old so I'm assuming you have updated already. Have you updated Office as well?

Creating a recurring event works fine, creating one with a custom recurrence is where the crash happens; 10.5.2 is no help here.

Synch services are bi-directional from iCal and AddressBook to/from Entourage. It is also how entries created in my Blackberry are pushed to Entourage via MissinSync (which ties into the Apple apps).

Yes, the problem I have is entering a CUSTOM recurring appointment. (Like "Every 3rd Thursday of the month).

Does anyone know whether the new version of Office/Entourage 2008 fixed it? Dumb question I guess because I really don't want to buy office 2008.

Thanks for your replies. Maybe someone will figure it out. Has anybody ever worked on it with Microsoft Tech support?

I should amplify that my crash is Office/2004/Mac. Those of you who said it works fine (10.5.2 Leopard), Are you running Office 2008?

Oh yes, I am running Office 2008. So I guess that's not a fair comparison.

Hi Miles,

Thanks. May I also ask you, are you happy with the cost vs. benefits of the upgrade to MSOffice 2008? Does it perform better than 2004 for you. Perhaps you got it free from work, if so, what would you do if you had to pay the few hundred bucks to upgrade to MSoffice2008? Is it worth it? I've read some articles that it's not really worth the money. One ther annoying thing about 2004 is the slow response time when searching the address book. It's really slow. Have you noticed a big improvement in 2008? There should be since it's more native.

Thanks for your advice, sorry I'm off the topic of the thread a little here,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Well my main reason for upgrading was because 2004 ran so slow on my Macbook Pro. So for that alone it was worth upgrading. I would definitely dish out a couple hundred for the upgrade, although what I got was the student pack. Everything definitely sped up when I switched. It's still slower than a lot of Apple apps, but not near as slow as 2004. I've ran into a couple minor bugs, but nothing major. So on speed alone, I'm happy with the upgrade. I wish they had included some features like smart folders and quick look attachments that they have in Mail, but otherwise I'm happy with it.

The most buggy Application I've found is Word. I find that it has a hard time dealing with Spaces. Sometimes it won't switch spaces or it will, but will be behind other apps. I am guessing they'll fix that as time goes on.

I found this thread through Google: I have just started having this problem with Entourage 2004. I experience the crash when trying to enter or edit a customized recurring calendar item ...this just started in the last week or so, possibly coincident with my updte to 10.5.3 ??

I have found a work around which is to enter the event as a recurring item on my treo and then sync it to Entourage from there. But I would love to know when someone acutally finds a good fix for this...

I had this same issue, Entourage does not like custom dates in the system
preferences. I had to go under date & time and select the default
short format. Everything worked perfect after that, no more crashes
after setting up a recurring meeting!

That is it Seth - THANKS !!!

A few months ago I tweaked my Time format to also show the Date in my menu bar ( a little Mac-Tip I picked up online ) and that is about when I started having this problem. I have undone the change and revertd to using the normal short form of the time and now I can customize a recurring calendar item again!

Appreciate it,

Amy
