Im a college student with my first mac. I've used word all my life. Is the switch to IWork tough/ worth it. asumeing i havent purchased one yet which should I buy IWork or Office 08 for mac. what are the pros/cons of both?

The switch is not tough, but there's a few words of caution
If you are primarily printing out papers and handing them in, you're not going to run into any problems (save one I'll get into in a bit). However, if you're taking online courses or need share files often, you'll need to export the Pages doc as a Word doc. It's not a total PITA, but it's just an extra step you'll need to do. Also Pages word translators still can be problematic, but for the usual school stuff you should be fine.
The big problem you may run into is Pages is not compatible with any of the Biblio programs like EndNote or Bookends. So, if you need to do a lot of research papers or site a lot of sources and want to use those programs (they really make that part easy) you'll want to stick with word.
Also, if you go through your school bookstore, Office is actually around the same price as iWork. I can get Office Pro for about $70 through the school itself.
