Hello,
I'm brand new to Mac. The Problem i'm having is this. I have two accounts on my mac. when i add photos to iphoto on my account, the other account does not see them. and vice versa. Now on windows i can set up a shared folder and anyone on the computer can access the photos thru that folder. Is there any way i can do that with my Mac? i have the new iMac with iphoto and seven years of pictures that i don't want to load on the computer twice.

In the primary iPhoto user you can share your photos with other users. Which OS version are you using? 10.3 10.4 10.5 ?
One thing you'll have to get rid of is this phrase "On a Windoze machine I can . . ." and instead use some of that gray matter to figure out things in the Mac OS.

My iPhoto v6.0 library is shared across (5) accounts on my iMAC. This is very easy to do and I believe there are several "roadmaps" for getting there. I recommend searching the Apple Support pages andor this forum, but recalling from memory it went something like this. Copy the library folder to Mac HDUsersShared. Then logon to each account and launch iPhoto. Go to iPhoto preferences and set the default path to the library to the path stated above.
