Trying to get Macminder

If Luma Code is gone (I tried to find it all I get is a 404) then you might want to try something else. I don't know if you have Leopard but there are quite a few new parental controls in it that might help you out. If you have a specific task in mind I, or others, might be able to recommend something for you.

Unfortunately MacMinder is no longer being developed by Lumacode as the developer thought the program would not be able to compete against the parental controls offered by Leopard. The final version 2.5.7 did not in fact even install or run with Leopard. I had an email conversation with the programmer just prior to the web site being shut down as I hoped they would continue since some features like remote administration as well as parental controls (lock screen, screen shot, reset times) are not contained within a single alternative product (as far as I know). No luck in persuading them to continue. Too bad -to me it was a fantastic product. If you can get a copy of version 2.5.4, it seems to run on OSX 10.5 but I can't verify that it is stable or where you might get a copy. Good luck.

I can confirm that in fact Mac Minder 2.5.4 works with 10.5.1 Leopard. I too was very disappointed when I updated all my Mac's to Leopard only to find Mac Minder 2.5.7 no longer worked. Having an official invoice I tried to contact Lumacode only to find them Gone!!.
I have been stuffing around with 10.5.1 "Parental Controls" but to be quite honest it is pathetic!, my kids worked out how to get around it in 1 day!. If the Mac goes to sleep you can simply log back in! Or if you turn off the Mac, when it restarts the Parental Controls are reset! very flaky and bug ridden. Sorry to hear Mac Minder has gone because it was great. ie: I could set a schedule for "World of Warcraft" (Application Level) that could not be bypassed, Up until I read this I was pulling my hair trying to stop my 2 sons olaying WoW for hours. Thanks to this post I downloaded 2.5.4 (http://www.download.com/Mac-Minder/3000-2274_4-10559006.html - stills downloads as it does not link to Lumacode) and I know have control again.
Thankyou Teejay

I Guess now that Lumacode no longer exists then it's software licensing ceases to be breach of copyright so here is my valid Serial code from a purchased copy of Mac Minder. I am having stability problems with 10.5.2 though sometimes works other times it just crashes. If you guys something better I am interested.
MacminderSerial code: MM2-276E4D15-C553

Try to find a copy of 2.5.6 as this seems more stable than 2.5.4. I guess 2.5.7 won't install but I wonder if it could be hacked to ignore the installed OS version. MM 2.5.6 should work a bit better and I got it to work on 10.5.2, but it is also a bit flaky as it will not "remote control" my kids Intel iMacs, but does install on their computers and limits their time. If you need remote control/observation, and observation, enable screen sharing and use something like "Chicken of the VNC" which I find is a bit easier to use than the OSX screen sharing, in which you have log in the host IP address each time. Chicken of the VNC remembers the IP and password. I am no secrity expert but just remember that security with this option enable is a real issue. Pick good passwords, etc... all the things that your mother in the IT department tells you!
Good luck

I still have 2.5.5 and 2.5.7. I suspect 2.5.6 was a release which didn't quite work.
It really is a pity that the developer terminated his support so drastically (no sign on the 'net at all), he had some good things in MacMinder and in the arms race with my 11 year old, it was the only tool which seemed to do the trick (I've put off going to Leopard due to its limitations).
Out of curiosity - has anyone tried Watcher? K.

Hey everyone, I can't find anyplace where I can download any version of MacMinder any more. Is there anyone who can email me a copy with the serial number. I can't find any other time management software available for the Mac. If you know of any, please let me know, but it sounds like Mac Minder was very good. I'm still running 10.4, so that shouldn't be a problem. My email is tomdupre@juno.com. Thanks for your help in advance.
