I have a Mac Sawtooth G4 450 that's been upgraded in almost every way possible over the years: OWC 1.4 GHz processor, 896 MB of RAM, ATI Radeon Pro 9000 graphics adapter, Superdrive, USB 2.0 card, and two 250 GB hard drives. I'm running OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 7.5. My iTunes library has about 75 GB of music and over 10,000 songs.
My problem is that, whenever I try to import a CD, it starts importing the first track, and then gives me the "iTunes quit unexpectedly" error. I've tried several CDs. I hadn't imported a CD in a few months, so there have been a few software updates on my Mac since my last import. However, I've had this problem, to a much lesser extent, since iTunes came out. I have hundreds of CDs, and it took me a couple years to import them all. Whenever I'd import between 5 and 10 CDs in a row, iTunes would begin to quit unexpectedly in the middle of an import, and I'd have to wait a few hours before trying again. At first, I thought it was due to a faulty Combo Drive, but when I got the Superdrive, the problem continued. I thought it might be processor-related, but the problem continued after I upgraded to the OWC processor. I thought it might be OS-related, but I've been through many OS updates. So I finally assumed it had to be heat-related, and I've just lived with it. Now, though, it's happening immediately, even after a cold boot.
I checked out Apple's support forum, and the only thing I could find was related to third-party plug-ins. I checked my LibraryiTunesiTunes Plug-ins folders, and they're empty. I've repaired my permissions.
Any ideas? Is my iTunes library too big for the age of my computer? I don't know whether my iTunes would crash during playback as well as importing, because I only use it to import music and sync it to my iPod.
I hope to get a new Mac soon (the ideal solution), but I've been trying to get by with this one for as long as possible due to financial reasons. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When things like this happen, I usually move the preference file for the application to the trash for the application then start the application over which will make a new preference file. If this doesn't help, you can always move the old file out of Trash & back to where it was.
Look in User> Library> Preferences for com.apple.iTunes.plist
