Set up .Mac mail account

This is a very basic question but I can't seem to find a clear answer. Does a .Mac membership allow me to create a mail account for my daughter? Or, does she need her own .Mac account separately from mine?

Once you get a .Mac account, you'll be able to set up 6 alias email accounts.
So you could use one of those to set up mail for your daughter.
Then it's just a matter of setting up mail to retrieve that email and send....
