QuickTime broken in Safari but fine in others

This may be linked to my previous problem but I do have another problem I've been trying to solve with the same system. QuickTIme works fine in Firefox 2.0.0.11 but the video portion doesn't in Safari. It shows the QT control bar in the middle of where the movie should be and it plays the audio but no video shows. I've (re)applied the 10.4.11 Combo Update for PowerPC and than QuickTime 7.4. Reset Safari. Checked System Preferences and everything. It does have Flip4Mac, but I've tried uninstalling that and making sure it is the latest version. Made sure it had the latest Flash / Shockwave plugins. Nothing additional in the Internet Plug-Ins folder for the user. WIlling to post any logs. Thanks!

I had the same problem a few mths ago w/ my DP G4 1.25GHz. All worked fine w/ FFox but could NOT view QT trailers and other videos via Safari. Flip4Mac is installed da-boot. FF was set as primary browser and switching to Safari didn't change things. Creating a 'user' account did nothing. The fix at this end was yanking out QT Pro and did a whole new install of QT.
I don't think the two snags, video & HP, are related. Have you tried a different USB cable for the HP havoc? At one point when my HP printer was sharing a USB HUB a couple KP popped up. Swapping to a powered USB did the trick. But I'm sure you have tried this w/ the HP plugged right into the G4...right? These type of fixes can drive one nutz.. :(

Thanks for the response.
I didn't uninstall Flip4Mac when doing the 'over the top' QT 7.3.1 install ( before the keynote ) nor for the 7.4 update install ( after the keynote ). I also did an 'over the top' 10.4.11 combo install ( before the keynote and QT 7.3.1 reiinstall ). I've tried everything I can think of. I did uninstall Flip4Mac but it didn't help.
Printer...It was never connected to the system while I was diagnosing problems.
I apologize if I made it seem like I was asking if the QT / printer problems were related. What I meant was that I felt it could be either the QT or HP software causing the KPs or freezing but I don't know.
Lastly, I found it very strange that the system experienced the old fashioned KP, new fangled KP, and freezing. While it doesn't seem major at all, it must be something that really got mucked up to cause such havoc ( behavior ).
I didn't feel like wasting any more time with it and so the owner is just going to try and find a 10.4 installation disc(s) and start from scratch. However, I'd still be interested in knowing just in case this sort of thing appears again on me.

Yeah, I also tried UNinstalling Flip4Mac at this end when having snags w/ QT video. No difference. I thought the 'Java For Mac OS10.4 Release 5' install caused the issue (?) After too many hours I felt lucky that a new install of QT did the trick. Often times, as you well know, it's just crazy the amount of time it takes to try to narrow down the snag. And the worse part is NOT knowing the cause of of the glitch after all the time spent.
BTW..I understood your original post it was my response that made it sound like the two were tied together.

web videos would show up with the QuickTime Logo overlaid with a question
mark. Most of the time. If I launched a browser and my home page (vt.edu)
came up OK, everything would be fine until the next time I launched the browser.
If the home page came up with the QT-?, I'd quit the browser and try any number
of probably dumb things until a browser launch came up OK. I spent December
reminding myself not to quit Safari. And forgetting of course.
Oddly enough the problem disappeared after applying Security Update 2007-009
version 1.1 for PowerPC on 12/28.
A new QuickTIme problem came up after installing QT 7.4 -- audio only for
for a lot of MP4's. Probably created by iSquint from downloaded FLVs. Running
them through VisualHub fixed them. But new FLV conversions to MP4 got audio
only from both apps. It is driving the Techspansion folk slightly nuts. The fix
du jour is selecting H.264 for the MP4 output.
I hate computers.
