I am going to college late (Online courses) in life and ordered my first Mac this evening. What I need to know is this. First, I am required to turn in all assignments using a .rtf extension. Can anyone verify that Office 2008 Word files can be saved in this manner?
Second, does anyone have any experience using Blackboard (online college system) with Mac? Anything I should know? Compatibility problems? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this stuff for me before I drop the bucks on the software.

Q1 - MS Word 2008, you shouldn't have a problem exporting files as an RTF. Keep in mind you may lose some formatting, but Word will warn you about that; this is the case in Windows ver. of Office as well.
Q2 - I am currently taking courses on-line as well, and my institution uses Blackboard. I find that Safari works just a little bit better, but both Safari and Firefox work fine in the environment. You need to have the newest version of Java runtime engine installed, which it should if you just ordered it. If not, Blackboard will conduct a systems check and provide a link to download the newest version. Also, you will probably need to make sure you have the newest Flash player installed, if they do anything with Adobe Connect - again, you will see a link if a missing plugin is found.
Good luck.

Thank you for your help. My institution pushes Firefox hard for everyone as the browser of choice. I use it and do not have any problems. They do not tell you to not use Safari and I know some do use it as well. I am glad to hear that I should not have any problems. The courses that I take for my degree (Logistics Mgmt.) are mostly in need of Word.
I was thinking last evening though, Can the "out of the box" Mac word processor software do .rtf extensions and would they work with Mac? I may give it a shot. Have a good day and again, thanks for your quick reply.
